The Chillout Bed from Silentnight

b_Charcoal_imageNot many bed manufacturers have the capacity to launch a bed specifically tailored to the high-end teenage market. Thankfully, Silentnight have taken the plunge and developed the Chillout, a hybrid bed/relaxation zone for the young at heart.

The Chillout is available in 2 colours, reflecting the target market for the product. The charcoal model is presumably aimed at males while the Cherise model will be targeting mainly teenage girls. According to Silentnight’s marketing materials, these are the ‘ultimate place to gossip, play, eat, work and sleep’ which is great for parents because it means your teenager will spend more time in their room and less time watching your TV sitting on your sofa.

There are 2 size options for the Chillout; 3FT single and 4FT6 double, although the Double bed is the one that will definitely become the better selling model. The bed includes the following interesting features:

  • 2 moveable Chillout cushions that can be moved to any position on the bed. Additional cushions can also be added to the bed for added seating possibilities.
  • A clip-on frame to display favourite books, magazines or photos.
  • An add-on shelf for CD’s, DVD’s, books and magazines.
  • A Miracoil spring system for support and comfort.
  • An additional sleepover base (only available on the single model).

If you think these features sound (a) odd and (b) mostly useless, you’re clearly not the target market for this bed. But your kids might just be. Get more information on bedstar.co.uk. There’s still time to make this the coolest Christmas gift you’ve ever bought your teenager. Although they may prefer an iPhone…

Silentnight Miracoil Spring

Silentnight Miracoil SPring

Silentnight is one of the biggest bed producers in the UK today. The secret of its success is not just the country’s love of the happy hippo in the striped pyjamas but more so the fact that Silentnight produce comfortable and supportive beds.

Silentnight use a unique spring system in their mattresses called the miracoil spring. This spring system is at the heart of the mattress and offers many more benefits than the more conventional open coil spring unit. Read more

Silentnight Babies Mattresses

Have you ever wondered why most adults will invest upwards of £500 on a high quality bed for themselves, but expect their babies to sleep on a £20 mattress.

I know this happens, because I have been guilty of it in the past. And I know I’m not alone. Just because they weigh next to nothing we seem to believe our children don’t need good support from a bed.

The fact is that babies need plenty of restful sleep to grow, and depriving them of a quality mattress is not going to achieve that.

Silentnight clearly think along the same lines, and they now have 3 fantastic babies’ mattresses in their ‘My First Little Bed’ range.

Little Lamb

little-lambThis mattress features a soft quilted cover, enhanced with an Aloe Vera fragrance.

Aloe Vera has long been known for its therapeutic properties, and is a useful deterrent for dust mites.

Little Roo

little-rooLittle Roo uses quilted bamboo, an anti-bacterial cover that absorbs moisture and dries out very quickly.

Unlike the foam Little Lamb mattress, the Little Roo is contains individually nested pocket springs and pure wool padding around the springs.

Little Cub

little-cubLittle Cub also uses knitted bamboo and features a foam layer for a comfortable, sound sleep.

Remember, when your baby is sleeping badly, you sleep badly. Investing in a quality baby mattress from Silentnight helps everyone in your house get a better night’s sleep.

Review: Silentnight Micacoil 7 Spirit Divan Bed

Silentnight Miracoil 7 Spirit Divan Bed

The Micacoil 7 Spirit divan bed from Silentnight utilizes a new system designed to stop you overheating while asleep. The Cirrus Airflow technology is a memory foam system that helps you maintain a comfortable temperature while you sleep. Unlike other mattresses, it uses a cell structure that allows moisture and excess heat to escape, creating what Silent Night like to call “the perfect micro-climate”.

The Spirit also incorporates the Miracoil spring system essentially an open coil spring which Silentnight have adapted to provide more targeted support for your curves and total body relaxation. This spring system provides firmness for your hips, softness for your shoulders and extra protection for your lower back. The mattress also has extra layers of cushioning on top of the spring system and a microquilted design design sleeping surface gives added comfort to the spirit. The mattress also has handles and vents to allow for turning and to help the mattress breath properly.

The base of the divan bed doesn’t lack in quality either. Silentnight offer its standard 2 and 4 drawer options with continental choices also available. The drawers offer a drop front design with beech effect linings for added quality. The base also sits on twin wheel castors which make the entire divan bed easily movable around the room.

The Spirit offers good value for money too with an 4FT 6 Double Non drawer costing around £500. This divan bed is the perfect choice for users that like a medium feel bed with good support and a tendency to overheat in bed.

Silent Night Memory Foam Mattress

As part of the miracoil 7 range of mattresses, this Silent Night memory foam mattress is a high-end, comfortable solution either for use with a divan base or a bedstead.

Breeze Memory Foam Mattress Features

  • Targeted Support Zones. The Breeze is part of the Miracoil7 range, which provide 7 support zones in the mattress spring unit. These include support for the hips, shoulders and lower back (all the main pressure points of your body while you sleep). This support zone system is only available in the Miracoil 7 range of mattresses.
  • Hypoallergenic fillings. Dust mites and allergies from dust and other substances are a thing of the past with Silent Night memory foam mattresses. It has never been easier to enjoy a healthy night’s sleep.
  • No turn. Because the memory foam top on the Breeze mattress is supposed to contour to your body, turning the mattress is not necessary (or recommended, as the Miracoil 7 spring unit and memory foam layer are only designed to work on one side). Regular rotation of the mattress is however recommended.
  • Enjoy more sleep space. The Miracoil 7 spring system is designed to let you sleep right up to the edge of the mattress without collapsing or wobbling. This unique spring system and its support zones also ensure that you don’t roll into your sleeping partner during the night.
  • The Breeze is a deep mattress. It has a depth of 32cm due to the depth of the Miracoil 7 spring unit, the added memory foam layer and the soft-touch mattress cover.
  • The Silent Night Breeze memory foam mattress are available in 3FT Single, 4FT Small Double, 4FT6 Double, 5FT Kingsize and 6FT Superking.

Silent Night Memory Foam

Generally, foams tend to compress when put under pressure. Memory foam differs from normal foam in that it does deform under pressure like normal foam, but resists springing back to its normal shape immediately.

The scientific reason this phenomenon occurs is because cells in the memory foam disperse air pressure from each other. In laymens terms, memory foam reduces the amount of pressure put on the body’s pressure points.

Memory foam is also heat-sensitive which helps it to mould to your body shape while you sleep. Silent Night memory foam mattresses use a unique blend of body moulding foam, which has a quicker recovery rate than conventional memory foam, offering more stable support across the mattress.

Doesn’t memory foam cause overheating?

There is no easy answer to this question. But in many cases memory foam does cause overheating. This is most common in cheaper, low quality foams supplied in basic mattress sets.

Silent Night use Cirrus Airflow technology, which is a memory foam system that helps you maintain a comfortable temperature while you sleep. Unlike other mattresses, it uses a cell structure that allows moisture and excess heat to escape, creating what Silent Night like to call “the perfect micro-climate”.

Who should buy the Silent Night Breeze Memory Foam Mattress?

Obviously the Silentnight Breeze mattress is ideally suited to people who have slept on a memory foam mattress before and know what to expect. But for those who are new to memory foam, Silent Night is one of the country’s leading manufacturers of beds and mattresses and you can be assured of a high-quality product.

The price of the Breeze aren’t bad either, with a Kingsize mattress costing just £430.00 (price found online at bedstar.co.uk)

The Miracoil 7 Silentnight Divan Bed Range

For 2009, Silentnight introduced the top of their product range; the Miracoil 7 spring unit. Like the more cost-effective Miracoil 3 range of mattresses, the Miracoil 7 features zoned support, pressure relief and support all the way to the edge of the mattress.

What makes it better that the Miracoil 3 is the additional layer of support it provides, making it one of the most advanced mattresses in the world.

vibrance

Leading the 2009 Silentnight Divan range is the Vibrance, with prices on the 4FT6 double starting at just under £600. The Vibrance has the following features:

  • The intelligent Miracoil spring system with an added support layer to provide targeted support.
  • Firm support for the heaviest parts of your body, i.e. your hips, shoulders and lower back.
  • A top layer of Innergetic latex, to provide an instantly comfortable soft, sumptuous feel.
  • An air flow layer to prevent overheating while you sleep.
  • Hypoallergenic fillings.
  • A no roll-together system to prevent you waking your partner during the night.
  • A no-turn mattress.
  • A larger sleeping area thanks to the spring unit being placed right up to the edge of the mattress.

The Silentnight Vibrance is available in the following sizes:

  • Single (3FT) – with non-drawer or 2 drawer options.
  • Small Double (4FT) – 4 non-drawer, 2 drawer or 4-drawer options.
  • Double (4FT6) – 4 non-drawer, 2 drawer or 4-drawer options.
  • Kingsize (5FT) – 4 non-drawer, 2 drawer or 4-drawer options.
  • Superking (6FT) – 4 non-drawer, 2 drawer or 4-drawer options.

Overall, the Vibrance is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a medium tension, high-end Silentnight divan bed. It has all the marks of a true quality product that will last you for years to come.

Silentnight entry level divan beds

Entry level Silentnight Divan

For 2009 Silentnight redefined their core range of beds and mattresses to focus more on their Miracoil spring systems. I’ve recently had a chance to review one of the entry-level beds in the Miracoil 3 range, called the Charm.

Like all new Silentnight Beds the Charm contains a Miracoil spring unit. This is the Miracoil 3 unit, and the bed has a very high spec set of features for an entry level model, for example:

A zoned Miracoil spring system

When I visited the Silentnight factory a few months ago, they had a very nice cutout of a mattress that demonstrates the different spring zones in the mattress. Areas where there will be less weight on the mattress will have a higher gauge spring unit and areas where the pressure is higher will have a more tighly wound spring unit to provide all the necessary support.

Pressure relief

The Miracoil spring system is designed to spread body weight across the mattress evenly ensuring that there are no pressure spots that will lead to discomfort, and making sure you get a good night’s sleep.

Comfortable fillings

Industry leading comfortable and supportive fibre fillings have been used in all Miracoil 3 mattresses to give you the feeling of luxury when you lie on a Silentnight Divan bed.

Storage options

Silentnight use the same divan base on all their new beds. And each one comes with a choice of storage options. You can choose between no drawers, 2 drawers or 4 drawers, giving you useful storage space for linen or other bulky items too large to store in cupboards.

Lower back support

The spring system used in the Charm provides comfort and support for all body shapes and sizes. The spring unit for the lower back region is specifically designed to provide just the right amount of support to keep your back in the most natural position all night long.

More sleep space

Silentnight have spent a lot of time making sure their mattresses provide support across the whole surface of the mattress. This means that the springs are consistent right up to the edge of the mattress, giving you the maximum amount of space without having to worry about rolling off the bed.

No roll together

On larger beds the ‘no roll together’ feature creates individual sleeping zones to make sure you and your partner don’t roll into each other during the night, and that you can sleep blissfully even when your partner is having a restless nights sleep.

Hypoallergenic

The Charm is treated with anti-dust mite properties and contains hypoallergenic fillings.

No need to turn

This is a single sided mattress. There is no need to flip the mattress at regular intervals. However, the manufacturers do recommend rotating the mattress regularly.

Review: Silentnight Miracoil 3 Ortho Star

Silentnight’s new range of divan beds has finally been launched so I was keen to start trying them out and see if Silentnight are still at the forefront of the bed making industry!!

The first bed I trialed was the miracoil 3, Ortho Star. As you can see by the picture below the bed still has a rather classic(old)  look to it which was slightly disappointing as I was hoping Silentnight might be a bit bolder in its overall look! This said the bed does look well constructed and the mattress looks of good quality.

Silentnight Ortho Star

Silentnight Ortho Star

I have always been a fan of the miracoil spring system used in Silentnight Mattresses, although just a fancy name for an open coil spring unit, the spring construction does offer good support and combined with a firm spring edge the mattress holds its shape well even with heavier people using it regularly.

I found the comfort level OK. This mattress is aimed at the individual that likes a firmer feel mattress and although I felt Silentnight have used good fillings on top of the spring system they  could have been more generous with the thickness of the layers as I could feel the springs digging into me at certain places.

Overall this bed didn’t really offer anything new in the market place, and I did feel the look of the bed let it down a little!! On a positive note the spring system was very responsive and the finish was of good quality. I would recommend this bed if you like a really firm support and obviously the comfort that goes with it!! But for me I’ll wait and see what Silentnight was to offer next week!!
